La Vallée

Accessories collection, 2024

And now, where do we go ?

Our ancestors failed, from their failure new lords were born.

Let the driverless cars melt into a single piece of useless steel, let the crypto-bros drown in their podcast under layers of bored apes nfts, let them go to mars with their ponzi scheme training, with the hope that they never come back.

These are their chimera, not ours.

For us, it is time to find a new path, on the ashes of their stories.
Let us embrace the mystical. Dive into this nebula of data and let yourself be carried away to unfolded horizons. Let us restore depth and spectacle, let us put euphoria back into our scripted rituals. We, the bodies that shift from one reality to another.

Break the silicon ring, and you will find the way

It is time to embody new mythes

Part equipment, weapon and artifact, “La Vallée” is a set of accessories designed to accompany you on steep paths, rocky plateaus and other digital scrublands.
Blending references taken from psychedelia, video games, medievalism and sport, this collection is made to be worn by a fictional character. Each object is designed to exist both in fiction and reality. It’s a coherent set, where each accessory is at the service of a bigger story.

There is no hierarchy between digital and craftsmanship here, everything is knowledge. Skills are conjoined to create hybrid items. The alloy of wicker and dyneema, porcelain and anodised aluminum, covered with vectorized/bitmapped/glitched patterns.

It all begins with mining. Digging for hours and hours in the vast databases of the Internet. Hundreds of screenshots from museum collections, digitized magazines, pixelated covers, scanned fanzines, company logo, ancient artifacts… It’s a flow of images, superposed, cropped, degraded, pasted. The accessories are the result of this combination of free moving signs.
Once it’s on the net, it’s usable.

It’s the silicon ore, a pixel soup, mixed in a single folder, and then melted, refined.
Accessories are like a mine, designed in strata. Layers of details and techniques put together, for a close observation or a distant gaze.

I grew up in the countryside, in a very small village. A hundred villagers at the time. A place surrounded by old chapels, dying trucks, the smell of sp95, forest, vineyard, silence and boredom. That is where this archaic touch comes from.

But like any story, it has its part of fantasy. That’s why this « Duchet » atmosphere resonates more with the Holy Grail or Les Visiteurs, than with the real Duc de Bourgogne. This is not chauvinism. The goal is to make objects, a story, from a personal point of view, with references that I know well enough to transgress.

All this led to this set, carried by a techno-hippie, guided by the idea of defeating the « lords » of Silicon Valley. Those who try to inject their stories into our brains through their apps and devices. A bunch of Bali-retreat crypto-bros, metavers salesmen and MMA-Zuck. It seems that “Whole Earth Hippies” have failed at some point. In their quest for individual freedom, they have created a monster, hidden somewhere in the apple park, and this thing is trying to disconnect us.

Maybe it’s time to embrace new stories, to end the techno-feudalism era. And this set is a proposition for a way out.
As Mark once said, we must create a future that does not yet exist.
